With Les Miles now completely out of the picture, the LSU coaching search is apparently coming into picture.
ESPN is reporting what is pretty much widely known — athletic director will look around and has high interest in Houston’s Tom Herman and Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher. Only there’s one caveat.
Interim head coach Ed Orgeron will get every opportunity to show he’s worthy of the gig with one stunning statement.
“If they beat Alabama [on Nov. 5], they might sign him to a new contract before midnight,” a source told ESPN.com.
LSU looked great in their first game post-Miles.
Even with Leonard Fournette only taking three carries for 12 yards, the Tigers rushed for a whopping 418 yards, and threw for another 216.
That’s against a Missouri defense that held a hobbled Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Georgia runners to just 101 yards on the ground.
With Saturday’s tilt against Florida cancelled, LSU now has a week to get everyone healthy, specifically Fournette. Then it’s back to work against Southern Miss, Ole Miss and a huge showdown with Alabama.
