LSU strikes back at Texas after intense coaching battle

This is really big news for LSU

Ed Orgeron isn't wasting time, and this time, he's kept a key coach from leaving.

Dave Aranda, the defensive coordinator, has been promoted to associate head each and received a new three-year contract expected to include an increase in his $1.2 million annual salary, according to the Advocate.

Under Aranda, LSU's scoring defense ranked No. 7 in the nation, and has only allowed 11 touchdowns in 10 games. He's also a nominee for the Broyles Award, given to the nation's top assistant coach.

LSU could have lost Aranda, 40, to Texas. He was considering moving on to the Longhorns and joining his friend Tom Herman, who was named head coach this past weekend. In the end, he stayed put.
