Michigan's last-second loss to Iowa on Saturday had a wide-ranging impact on the college football landscape but, in general, the Wolverines still have every goal in front of them if they are able to finish the remainder of the schedule without blemish. However, Jim Harbaugh and company might have an uphill battle in doing so given the status of quarterback Wilton Speight, as the head coach indicated that Speight could be a game-time decision on Saturday against Indiana (via the Detroit Free Press):
"It's going to depend on how he feels. Could be a (game-time decision). We will know based on what the doctors say and how Wilton's feeling."
Speight injured his non-throwing shoulder during the fourth quarter against Iowa, and while he finished the game, the redshirt sophomore was visibly limited. While the Wolverines could likely handle the Hoosiers on Saturday without Speight at full-strength, Ohio State looms in the season finale, and Michigan undoubtedly needs their full complement of talent in order to produce an "upset" victory in that spot.
As for preparations for this week, Harbaugh indicated that backups John O'Korn and Shane Morris will see an uptick in reps.
"John, Shane (Morris), I would anticipate today, the next couple days, they'd get the majority of the reps and that'd be good for them."
Beyond that, Harbaugh declined (as usual) to get into specifics, but this is very ominous for Michigan in general. Speight had been fantastic prior to a lackluster game against Iowa, and while O'Korn was reportedly neck and neck with him in the preseason, it seems likely that the Wolverines would take a step back if Speight was unable to play at 100 percent.
This week might not be a problem, but going into Columbus would be very, very tough without Wilton Speight.
