Jim Harbaugh has enjoyed better weeks on the recruiting trail, but the Michigan Wolverines did receive some good news on Monday. 2018 quarterback prospect Dorian Thompson-Robinson is ranked as one of the top 60 prospects nationally in that class, and the 6-foot-2, 195-pound athlete is high on Michigan as he examines his options.
While UCLA does lead for his services, Thompson-Robinson spoke with Evan Petzold of SB Nation's Maize n Brew this week and he had glowing things to say:
"I'm very interested [in Michigan]. They are one of my top schools I'm looking at. I have a great relationship with coach Jedd Fisch and my mom went there."
At this point, the junior quarterback is actually participating heavily at wide receiver at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, as top 2017 prospect and Ohio State commit Tate Martell occupies the starting job. However, Michigan seems to be targeting Thompson-Robinson as a quarterback and that is how he wants it.
"I want to strictly be at quarterback in college. All the colleges that are recruiting me know that."
It would be (very) good news for the Wolverines if the team was able to make progress with a prospect like Dorian Thompson-Robinson for a number of reasons. He is a versatile, talented player that could factor in to the team's quarterback plans in the future and, aside from that, Michigan has enjoyed success in moving athletic players around the field to fit the team's most pressing needs.
Everyone, including Thompson-Robinson, agrees that UCLA is the front-runner at this stage, but Harbaugh and his staff have been impressive in closing on recruits and they have some extra time to work on this very intriguing prospect.
