NBA coach could reportedly be fired after just two seasons

Could the Pelicans really be considering this?

The New Orleans Pelicans are probably not going to make the playoffs for back-to-back seasons now, and the decision-makers in New Orleans are reportedly going to evaluate both head coach Alvin Gentry and general manager Dell Demps at the end of the season.

Via RealGM:

"The future of Alvin Gentry as head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans is in danger. Gentry has been told by management they expect the Pelicans to show signs of progress over the final few weeks of the season."

Even though the Pelicans made a huge trade-deadline move this season by acquiring DeMarcus Cousins, the team is still struggling to translate having two, top-15 players in the NBA to wins.

Moving on from Gentry after two seasons would be a very bold move for the franchise. Not giving Gentry a full offseason to figure out how to make the Cousins and Anthony Davis pairing work would be surprising considering how hard it is to integrate players into a new system in the middle of the of season.

The Pelicans have won just four of the their 11 games since acquiring Cousins.
