According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, the winless Cleveland Browns (0-11) are already targeting their guy — and it’s North Carolina junior quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
The franchise, which uses a heavy reliance on analytics, has strong grades on him, and it’s not a secret in the scouting community how highly the Browns rate him.
“They love him,” a top evaluator from another NFL club said. “Trust me, they love him.”
Trubisky certainly isn’t among the caliber of high-profile draftees such as quarterbacks Deshaun Watson, DeShone Kizer, Brad Kaaya or running backs Leonard Fournette or Dalvin Cook.
But according to the report, the Browns fell in love with Trubisky’s big arm and 6’3″ stature.
In his junior year, Trubisky has thrown for over 3,000 yards with 25 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
The Browns currently have Cody Kessler, Josh McCown and Robert Griffin III under center, but all three have been up-and-down throughout the year.
After passing on Jared Goff, Carson Wentz and most notably Dak Prescott, the Browns need to hit on a quarterback sooner rather than later. Especially if they lock up emerging star wideout Terrelle Pryor Sr.
