Northwestern suffers embarrassing loss to in-state FCS team

Not a good look for the Big Ten.

In looks like the 10-win Northwestern team from 2015 is gone. By a lot.

Northwestern has now opened the season 0-2 after a 9-7 loss to FCS Illinois State on Saturday.

This loss comes after Northwestern lost to Western Michigan to open the season. Not exactly the way a Big Ten team wants to start their year.

For those that didn't watch this game, you didn't miss much. Northwestern only had 277 yards of total offense, and only converting 5-for-18 on third down opportunities. It was an ugly game that Illinois State was able to withstand and win with a field goal.

Illinois State is actually a very good FCS team, but no Power 5 team is going to get a pass on a loss to an FCS squad. Things are going to get a lot worse for Northwestern, too, as they have at Iowa, at Michigan State, and at Ohio State looming in October.

Good luck with that, Wildcats.
