A season ago, the Kansas City Chiefs made a highly controversial draft pick by selecting the versatile Tyreek Hill in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Now, a year later, the Chiefs may be considering making a similar decision in drafting Oklahoma Sooners' star running back Joe Mixon in the 2017 NFL Draft.
The Kansas City Star's Terez A. Paylor asked Chiefs' general manager John Dorsey about the possibility of taking Mixon just one season after taking Hill who went on to have a Pro Bowl season as a rookie.
Here's what Dorsey told the Kansas City Star:
"We will do our due diligence with every player, and when it comes down to this, then we will even go in deeper, as deep as we can probably fully vet," Dorsey said. "It comes down to communication with ownership and the head coach, and as we begin to talk this through and talk out what we, as an organization, feel is important, why we think we should make a move like this and do we have a plan in place."
Dorsey and the Chiefs' draft philosophy looks as though it will remain the same as it was a season ago when they took Hill. Like Hill, Mixon's skill and upside mixed with his off-the-field issues makes this a very difficult situation for general manager's like Dorsey.
Chiefs' head coach Andy Reid, however, hasn't done extensive research into Mixon telling the Kansas City Star:
"I don't know this kid at all," Reid said. "I haven't talked to him. I really haven't even seen the video ... I don't know what this kid is doing; again, I haven't studied him at all."
