Some Green Bay Packers fans are so absurdly devoted to their team, they’ve started a petition to ban Troy Aikman from calling broadcasts of Packers games.
And the reason, according to a recent GQ article, goes all the way back to 1988, before Aikman, a former Hall of Fame quarterback with the Dallas Cowboys and current Fox NFL broadcaster, was even in the NFL.
Six months before he was drafted, there was a worst record gets first pick in the draft scenario brewing between the Cowboys and the Packers, who were both 3-12 heading into the final game of the season.
Aikman, the story goes, made it clear that he didn’t want to play in the cold weather, so he rooted for the Packers to win.
Guess what? Green Bay ended up winning that last game, while the Cowboys lost. And the rest is history. The Cowboys got their quarterback in Aikman and won three super bowls with him.
To be able to derive ill feelings for Aikman out of that alone is kind of odd.
