Patriots could be losing one of their top playmakers to another possible Super Bowl contender

This makes sense for both sides.

With the New England Patriots adding Mike Gillislee to their already deep stable of running backs, LaGarrette Blount looks like the odd man out in Foxboro.

However, Blount may not be available for much longer as NFL report Ian Rapoport is reporting that the New York Giants and Blount have "mutual interest".

The Giants make a lot of sense for Blount with Rashad Jennings currently being a free agent and Paul Perkins being their only other real option in the backfield heading into next season.

Rapoport didn't report on what a potential deal might look like financially, but it's hard to see it being anything other than a one-year deal considering Blount's age and the interest other teams have shown in him thus far.

Blount ran for 1,161 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Patriots in 2016-17.
