Paul Finebaum says Alabama has underachieved over the last 8 seasons

Paul Finebaum must be losing it.

Paul Finebaum says wild things about many programs in the college football world, but his bread and butter is the Alabama Crimson Tide. With that in mind, the ESPN personality was up to his old tricks on Monday, and they were shared with The Opening Drive on WJOX.

During the interview, Finebaum made the claim that Nick Saban's team has actually underachieved in the recent past and Saturday Down South brings the details directly from Finebaum's mouth:

"I just kinda shook my head thinking about the talent on this team and what we will see go in the draft Thursday night and what we have seen over the last 10 years. It's amazing to say but I think Alabama may have actually underachieved in winning only four of the last eight national titles. It's a crazy statement, but I don't ever think I've seen a better collection of talent in a period of time and while anyone would be happy to play for the national championship, I think Alabama may have left one or two on the table somewhere."

As Finebaum notes, Alabama has claimed four of the past eight national titles and, frankly, it is absurd to suggest that anyone could have rationally expected more. Still, the root of Finebaum's point is that the Crimson Tide are head and shoulders above the rest from a talent standpoint and it would be tough to refute that on an annual basis.

Nick Saban is probably frustrated with the endings of a few recent seasons but winning four national titles over an eight-year span is pretty good.
