Report: Alabama to add former Heisman Trophy winner to their coaching staff

Big get for Alabama.

This is a big get for Alabama after an offseason of enormous coaching turnover.

According to Tide Sports and the Tuscaloosa News, Alabama is set to add former Florida State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Chris Weinke to their coaching staff as an offensive analyst. Weinke had previously interviewed with Tennessee, but it looks like he will be joining the Crimson Tide instead.

Weinke played for Florida State from 1997-2000, becoming the oldest player to win the Heisman trophy at 28 years old. Weinke suited up for the Carolina Panthers (2001-2006) and San Francisco 49ers (2007) during his short NFL career.

He also worked as the Director of Football at IMG Academy from 2010 to 2014, which could be a vital reason why he was such a candidate among SEC teams. IMG Academy has become one of the top schools for high school football talent, and Weinke could provide valuable insight for the Tide with regards to recruiting the area.

Weinke's last job was with the Rams over the past two seasons as a quarterbacks coach.
