Report: Calvin Johnson informed Lions, family he plans to retire

Another Lions legend is reportedly walking away at the top of his game.

According to ESPN, Calvin Johnson informed Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell, his family and friends that 2015 would be his last season in the NFL after the season ended.

Caldwell reportedly told Johnson not to rush the decision, but someone who knows the star receiver well told ESPN, "He's pretty content with his decision."

The 6'5" receiver has battled a litany of injuries including general soreness and ankle issues in recent years. If the former No. 2 overall pick does walk away, he'll owe the Lions a chunk of cash:

Johnson, age 30, has four years remaining on his current contract. If he does walk away, he'll follow in the footsteps of fellow Lions legend Barry Sanders, who retired at age 31.

The star receiver has recorded 11,619 receiving yards and 83 TDs over his nine-year career
