Billy Napier was the wide receivers coach at Alabama from 2013 to 2017 but, when he recently departed for Arizona State, his defection did not make national news. That isn't a great shock in that most position coaches do not generate legitimate buzz, but Napier was not tapped to replace Steve Sarkisian as the offensive coordinator under Nick Saban and the writing was on the wall from there.
To that end, Napier's exit could be a far-reaching effect on both the Crimson Tide and another prominent college football program. Travis Haney of 247Sports brings word that Napier's replacement could be Florida State recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach Tim Brewster.
Brewster has been with the Seminoles since 2013, after spending a handful of seasons as the head coach at Minnesota, and the 56-year-old was partly responsible for another tremendous recruiting class in 2017. In fact, Florida State's appeal to five-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson was credited, at least to some degree, to Brewster and a potential departure for Tuscaloosa could send Jimbo Fisher scrambling to some degree on the recruiting trail.
It is important to note that this appears to be far from a done deal, but an assistant going from Florida State to Alabama should be monitored quite closely, simply because the recruiting landscape could be greatly affected.
