He's baaaaack.

After firing head coach Ron Turner earlier in the season, Florida International University is reportedly nearing an agreement to bring Butch Davis on as the football team's head coach.

The 64-year-old Davis led Miami to a 51-20 record from 1995-2000, building the foundation for the eventual 2001 national champs under Larry Coker.

Davis jumped to the NFL, where he coached the Cleveland Browns to a playoff appearance in 2002, but resigned in 2004 and headed to North Carolina in 2006.

Davis was eventually fired in 2011 following an NCAA investigation into academic fraud, but was later exonerated. He has bounced between serving with the Buccaneers as an adviser (2012-2013) and standing as a current college football analyst for ESPN.

Since the program's inception in 2002, FIU has just two winning seasons (2010 and 2011). Those seasons were the school's lone bowl appearances.

Turner was in his fourth season with the Panthers and dropped to 10-30 after a 53-14 loss to in-state rival UCF. Turner formerly coached Illinois for eight seasons and even won a Big Ten title in 2001.
