Authorities in Texas say a middle school teacher continually sexually abused a 13-year-old student and became pregnant with his child, and she’s facing up to 99 years in prison.
Alexandria Vera, 24, told prosecutors she had a sexual relationship with the student since September, according to ABC-13 in Houston. She claimed the boy’s family supports their relationship and was excited about her pregnancy, according to prosecutors.
She’s free on $100,000 bond, but has been ordered to wear a GPS tracking device, has to stay away from minors, and adhere to a 8 p.m. to 7 a.m curfew. She was in court this week and an Oct. 18 hearing was uneventful. She’s scheduled to be back in court in November.
Vera, a striking brunette who taught 8th grade English at Stovall Middle School in Houston, told prosecutors that she gave the boy her number on Instagram after they flirted during a summer school session.
She said the relationship developed from there and they began going for drives in her car and began having sex on a daily basis soon after.
The mother of one told police that she and the student are “in love” and was introduced to the family by him as his girlfriend. Vera also claims that the family is supportive and often allowed the boy to spend the night at her house.
A student at the school said that Vera and the boy did not even try to hide their relationship, and he “grabbed her butt and everybody saw it.”
According to court documents, the relationship came to light when Vera became pregnant in January. She decided to have an abortion after becoming nervous when Child Protective Services showed up at the school to question her and the student.
She denied the relationship at the time, according to reports, but after the investigation concluded Vera was charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child. Police have been unable to locate her to serve the arrest warrant.
School officials said in a statement that Vera was immediately terminated once the charges surfaced.
“When the allegation was made in April, the teacher was immediately removed from the school and placed on administrative leave,” Aldine ISD, the organization that runs the school said in a statement. ”
Vera has turned herseld in to authorities and faces 99 years in prison. During a recent court appearance, she had to explain to a judge why she broke her court-ordered curfew.
