Everett, just 19 years old, was a freshman at Vanderbilt and ranked as one of the nation's top high school pitchers before landing with the Commodores. Vanderbilt was slated to play in the NCAA Regionals Friday evening against Xavier, but the status of the game has not been decided, per the report.

According to the report, Everett is the second Vanderbilt student to die in a growing accident since May 2015, when basketball player Dai Jon Parker drowned in Indianapolis.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Everett's family and friends.
