The SEC Network and the Playoff made the SEC a ton of money

We already knew that college sports has the ability to draw a ton of revenue. However, it appears that the SEC has potentially perfected that model.

According to a tax return obtained by USA Today, the SEC took in $527 million in revenue for the fiscal year ending on August 31. That year represents the first full year of the SEC Network, and also includes revenue from the hugely successful 2014-15 College Football Playoff.

Just how much of an increase is that for the SEC compared to recent years? USA Today mentions that the SEC's total revenue for the 2009 year was just $150 million, meaning that there has been a 250-percent increase in the league's revenue over the past six seasons.

Two hundred and fifty percent increase!

It was reported in May of 2015 that the SEC would be distributing about $31.2 million to each school after record revenue in 2014, so don't be shocked when that number goes up when the full report is released in the spring.
