There’s one major reason a former Pro Bowler may be still out of a job

This is pretty weird.

With the way the NFL has moved into a pass-first focus, it would be very difficult for any team in the league to employ too much depth at the cornerback position. In fact, most teams have a shortage of quality options when attempting to cover high-end wide receivers and that makes the story with Alterraun Verner all the more interesting.

The former Pro Bowl cornerback remains on the market after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2016 season. It made sense for the Bucs to part ways with Verner for salary cap purposes but, since then, he has been unable to land with a team and we might have an indication as to why.

Pro Football Talk, citing a Jacksonville.com report, brings word that Verner might be out of shape.

"He was a little out of shape. Word is they will do a do-over," the paper quoted an unnamed source as saying.

This stemmed from a report that the talented defensive back worked out for the Jaguars. Interestingly enough, the original quote was pulled from the story but, in the internet age, that does not exactly remove the content from the discussion.

Alterraun Verner will almost certainly have a job when the 2017 season opens but this is a weird one in late May.
