This LSU stat shows that firing Les Miles was the right idea

That's a big "ouch" for Les Miles.

LSU set a school record on Saturday, and it won't reflect well on the now departed Les Miles.

LSU put a 42-7 pounding on Missouri in Week 5, as the 42 points were the result of an offensive record for the Baton Rogue version of the Tigers. Even without star running back Leonard Fournette, LSU put up 634 yards of offense — a record for them against an SEC opponent.

You can preface this with one big thing: teams often perform well in the game directly after the firing. The change can get players and remaining coaches fired up, so you can't put in a full verdict on the firing usually for years after it happens.

But an offensive record right after Les Miles was fired? That might not be coincidence, as LSU actually had the complementary passing attack to go with the dominant run game that they've been waiting for for years.

LSU's next chance to show off on offense will come against a tougher defense: Florida's. If LSU can again dominate there, then they might be on to something with interim head coach Ed Orgeron.
