The last time Georgia beat Bama, George W. Bush was the President of the United States, Matthew Stafford quarterbacked the Bulldogs and Nick Saban had only been on the job at Tuscaloosa for a couple of months.
Now eight years later the two teams will play in a matchup that could send the winner and loser on completely different trajectories. A loss pretty much ends Bama’s season as a playoff contender and a loss for Georgia and, well, its reputation, as well as that of coach Mark Richt, being able to win big games will only endure further.
It’s a huge matchup for both teams, just as this one was in 2007. Georgia won that one in Tuscaloosa as they will hope to do again in Athens on Saturday. In 66 meetings Alabama has 37-25-4 all-time edge against the Bulldogs.
