Upset alert is back for Week 8 of college football! We’ve got another big week with several ranked matchups, but it is to the unranked teams that we look towards as the ones to pull off some potential upsets!

Notably missing in this week’s upset alert is Alabama. The Crimson Tide were on the last two editions of upset alert, and… they’ve earned a reprieve until further notice. Here are the teams that we have instead!

No. 7 Louisville

Oct. 22 vs. N.C. State

N.C. State’s near upset of Clemson last week wasn’t a fluke; the Wolfpack are actually very good, and they will have another chance to score an upset against a Top 10 team with Louisville this week.

“We know the recipe for being there now,” said N.C. State coach Dave Doerson after the loss to Clemson. Of course, that recipe calls for a few different ingredients when Lamar Jackson is involved, but if N.C. State’s defense can translate from that Clemson game, then the Wolfpack will have a fair shot at scoring the upset in Louisville.

No. 12 West Virginia
Oct. 22 vs. TCU

Last week was a good test for West Virginia, as they went into Lubbock and actually shut down Texas Tech’s offense. That doesn’t happen often, and it was a very impressive showing.

However, TCU is a different animal. Shutting down Kenny Hill is going to be a lot different than shutting down an injured Patrick Mahomes, and TCU has had the benefit of a week off to prepare for the Mountaineers. Because of that, I think this game will be closer to West Virginia’s one-possession wins over BYU and Kansas State than their blowout of Texas Tech.

No. 14 Boise State
Oct. 20 vs. BYU

Boise State is undefeated once again, but I have not been as impressed with the Broncos as some others have. And now a short week game after a near blown game vs. Colorado State last Saturday? Smells like an upset!

BYU is 4-3 on the year, but their three losses are by a total of seven points against Utah (ranked), UCLA (good), and West Virginia (ranked and undefeated). At the very least, BYU has had a habit of keeping games very close in the fourth quarter, and that should give them a good chance to score a needed win over Boise.
