Bill Belichick is almost universally considered to be the top head coach in the NFL today and it is (very) easy to see why that sentiment exists. The now 64-year-old mastermind has captained the New England Patriots to a mesmerizing five Super Bowl titles during his tenure with the organization and, beyond that, the team has reached a total of seven Super Bowls since 2000.
With that in mind, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer was in search of an impactful speaker for his annual coaching clinic in Columbus and he was able to lock down Belichick's speaking services. In setting things up, though, Meyer praised Belichick in a significant way and, frankly, he might be right. Patrick Murphy of 247Sports brings word:
"He's arguably, if not the greatest coach in all of professional sports, not just professional football, and he's a very good friend. He's got a lot of respect for Ohio State football."
There is stiff competition for the title of "greatest coach in all of professional sports" and names like Gregg Popovich (of the NBA's San Antonio Spurs) immediately spring to mind. However, the NFL provides a very difficult setup for continued success and the Patriots have been almost impossibly successful under the leadership of Belichick, both on the sidelines and in the front office.
The debate can rage on when it comes to actually finding the best of the best across the lines of sport but Bill Belichick is absolutely on the short list and Urban Meyer knows it.
