There are rumors every year about Kentucky coach John Calipari potentially going back to the pros to coach a team. There are some desperate pro teams out there looking to make changes and are willing to pay a lot of money to do it. Washington Post writer Tim Bontemps believes that the Brooklyn Nets will offer him “everything under the sun” to get him to come back to the organization. He coached the New Jersey Nets from 1996-1998, going just 72-112 before being fired 20 games into the 1998-99 season with his team sitting at 3-17.

In a live fan chat on Tuesday, Bontemps says that Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center CEO Brett Yomark is extremely high on Coach Cal.

Q: John Calipari

I know this is difficult to accurately project, but for fun please take an educated guess on the likelihood that John Calipari is coaching the Nets next year.

A: Tim Bontemps

If Brett Yormark is in charge of decision making, Calipari will undoubtedly be offered everything under the sun to become basketball czar of the Nets. I’ve heard conflicting opinions on whether he’d take it, but that will undoubtedly be the first call if Yormark gets his way.

It looks like we might have another summer of speculation regarding Calipari and his job prospects. However, it might prove very difficult to pull him from Kentucky after the massive contract he was given last summer to stay.
