With Damien Harris ailing, true freshman Joshua Jacobs steps up for Tide

Alabama played their 14th true freshman this season during their 34-6 win over Kentucky Saturday and it's shaping up to be the year of the true freshman in Tuscaloosa. The star from the true freshman ranks Saturday was by far running back Joshua Jacobs who stepped up to carry the load for Bama with Damien Harris battling an ankle injury.

Jacobs ran hard and physically all night and produced his finest game yet for Alabama when it was needed the most rushing for 100 yards and a touchdown. and added 3 catches for 54 yards Saban was very pleased with Jacobs, telling reporters after the game,

"Joshua is a very hard-working, very-instinctive player," Alabama coach Nick Saban said according to TideSports.com. "He really understands how to press the hole and make cuts. He's got quickness and a little burst. He's got good hands.

"We needed one of our freshman backs to step up this year because we only had two guys left. We're pleased with the progress both have made, but Josh has certainly done a really good job for us."

"We have a lot of confidence in Damien Harris, who has played extremely well for us all year long," Saban said. "He was coming off a little bit of a high ankle sprain. He wasn't able to practice as much this week. He's OK and was cleared to play in the game, but we decided to spot play him and use him in third down.

"That gave Josh more opportunity and he certainly took advantage of it and did a great job."

Jacobs is just another freshman making a huge impact on this season for Alabama. Between him, Damien Harris, and Bo Scarbrough, the Alabama rushing attack is starting to take shape.
