A month ago, Auburn dismissed top running back Jovon Robinson from the program. The reason behind the sudden dismissal at the time was boiled down to "continued inattention to detail in everything".
What later came out was that there was an assault accusation against Robinson that potentially factored in to his dismissal. According to AL.com, a woman reported the incident on July 16 to head coach Gus Malzahn, who later forwarded the report to the school's Title IX officer.
In the reported incident, the unnamed woman claimed that she argued with Robinson, and that he later threw her out of his room, causing "two bloody knees, a bruised shoulder, and a knot above my eye."
In the latest AL.com report, the woman in the incident is now reporting that she made the entire thing up after being upset that Robinson wanted her out of his room. Here is what the accuser said in an email to Malzahn after Robinson was dismissed in early August.
At 7:50 p.m. that evening, the accuser emailed Malzahn for a second time, telling him directly that she had lied about what happened between her and Robinson.
"I'm not sure if your decision today had anything to do with my situation a few weeks ago, but I just wanted you to know that I made up the entire thing simply because I was upset with Jovon at the time," the accuser wrote to Malzahn. "I haven't had any contact with him in the past few weeks but I do not think my lie should have costed him his spot on the team. Please consider changing your mind because I would really hate to see a person with so much potential lose his opportunity because of my silly fib. Jovon didn't do anything to me that night but ask me to leave his room and I was upset about that."
Malzahn never specified that Robinson was kicked off the team just for this incident. "He did not meet my standards or expectations of what it takes to be an Auburn Tiger football player," Malzahn said after the dismissal. Robinson was reportedly missing team meeting and classes, which also may have factored in to his dismissal.
Robinson has one season of eligibility remaining. He rushed for 639 yards and three touchdowns for Auburn in the 2015 season.
