Sports Illustrated is reportedly losing one of its best writers and top college football expert

This came out of nowhere.

Longtime college football scribe Pete Thamel may be on the move from Sports Illustrated, as The Big Lead is reporting that multiple sources are telling them he's jumping ship to rival Yahoo Sports.

"Pete Thamel is expected to leave Sports Illustrated for Yahoo Sports, two sources tell The Big Lead. Unauthorized to speak publicly on the matter, the sources requested anonymity. One source said that while the deal is not yet finalized, indications are that it's headed in that direction very soon."

This is a very interesting development for both sides, as Yahoo Sports has recently lost big-time talent, like Adrian Wojnarowski, along with other layoffs, so it's interesting to see that the company is now reportedly trying to bring on Thamel.

Thamel would be a huge get for Yahoo Sports, and another talented college football writer to pair with Pat Forde and company.

Thamel has been with Sports Illustrated since 2012, and worked for the New York Times before that.
