Gators Star Guard Returning for Sophomore Season

For Florida Gators guard Scottie Lewis, playing in the NBA is his ultimate goal. That's been the case for years, and it won't ever change until it happens. He's just not ready to leave college basketball yet.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and COVID-19 outbreak, Lewis' freshman season ended abruptly. No SEC Tournament. No NCAA Tournament. No potential run to a Final Four. These are the moments players dream of, too, and Lewis didn't want to move on from Gainesville or leave without getting a little taste of the big stage.

Lewis is coming back for his sophomore season.

During his freshman season, where the hyper athletic guard earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors, Lewis averaged 8.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 30 games. He scored in double figures 10 times, including six games with over 15 points.

His final game of the year was his best when he dropped a career-high 19 points against Kentucky in the regular season finale.

"Gator Nation, as you all know we have some unfinished business! Our season was cut short, and we were not able to complete our season that we were supposed to. My dream of playing in the NBA is still a top priority, but my heart is in Gainesville! With that being said, I am more than happy to announce that I will be returning for the 2020-21 season. I want to thank my teammates, my coaching staff and most importantly my family for their unconditional love and support throughout this entire process! I am excited for the journey that lies ahead. My story hasn't even started and trust me THE BEST IS YET TO COME!"

A former five-star recruit and McDonald's All-American from Ranney School in New Jersey, Lewis has the athletic ability and talent on both ends to produce at a high level.

In his mind, however, the NBA Draft can wait. It's time to get ready for next season.
