Golf legend Jack Nicklaus sticks up for Jameis Winston in autograph situation

Jack Nicklaus, who is arguably the best golfer of all time, is the grandfather of tight end Nick O’Leary. Nicklaus’ grandson has been one of Winston’s most reliable targets over the past two seasons. And the golf legend believes the media needs to stop the witch hunt of Jameis Winston.

“I just hate to see them hammering a 20-year-old kid,” Nicklaus told the Palm Beach Post on Saturday. “Has he made mistakes? Maybe. But you’re supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, I think. Not charged and convicted and sentenced.”

I definitely believe that Winston hasn’t been awarded this given right. The coverage of Winston portrays him as a man who is already guilty. It has been reported that Winston has over 2,000 authenticated autographs, but Nicklaus said that no matter how high the number is, it doesn’t matter.

“I wonder how many autographs I have out there. Every game I go to I sign, probably 20 or 25 [people] and four or five each. Start adding that up. And he’s a lot more available than I am. He’s not the only kid with a couple thousand out there. A bunch of those kids have to have a couple thousand.”
