Jimbo Fisher dropped a bombshell about Jameis Winston's weight issues

This explains everything.

After Jameis Winston's electric, Heisman winning year in 2013, many people wondered what on earth happened to him after that. It's not that Winston played horrific or anything, but his weight really started to get up there, and he really maintained a more puffy look until he cut the weight recently. So what happened?

According to Fisher, who as speaking on the Dan LeBatard radio show on Wednesday, everything goes back to an ankle injury that Winston suffered against Louisville in his sophomore year. While the injury was known at the time, apparently Florida State and Winston hid just how bad it was.

"His freshman year, he was fine," Fisher said of his former quarterback. "By the fifth game of his sophomore year, he hurt his ankle at Louisville really bad. People didn't know, his sophomore year, he played the rest of that year really hurt. He could not condition, he could not run, he could only practice and drop, so a lot of the running things he had to quit doing."

"His weight really came on the second half of his sophomore year," Fisher then said rather bluntly.

If you watched Florida State that year, you could tell that Winston was never completely the same on the field after it. However, since Winston continued to play on the injury, it looks like its significance went under the radar.

Winston's weight issues really came under fire around the 2015 NFL Draft, as pictures showed him looking overweight at the time. People even made the dreaded Jamarcus Russell comparison, which is obvious cause for a lot of concern.

The good news for Winston fans, of course, is that all of those fears were assuaged in the 2015 NFL season, and by his recent weight loss this off season.
