Tennessee should be getting deep into its coaching search under athletic director John Currie. He has set forth some standards for who should be the next coach like being a proven winner and preferring someone with Power-5 experience. The latest coach to be rumored as a favorite in the search would fit that criteria:
Jimbo Fisher was also rumored to be a favorite in the LSU coaching job when it opened up last year as well. However, those ties were much stronger — he was a coordinator and assistant coach for a few years — than any he would have at Tennessee as he has no history with the school. That seems like a shot in the dark and while it does look bleak at FSU, the buyout required to get rid of Fisher is just too big right now.
Fisher would give Tennessee a pipeline to Florida and Georgia recruiting, but he seems much less likely to take the UT job than a Jon Gruden or Dan Mullen.
