Team in turmoil reportedly has its 'eyes set on Jimbo Fisher' as next coach

Oh really?

Tennessee should be getting deep into its coaching search under athletic director John Currie. He has set forth some standards for who should be the next coach like being a proven winner and preferring someone with Power-5 experience. The latest coach to be rumored as a favorite in the search would fit that criteria:

Jimbo Fisher was also rumored to be a favorite in the LSU coaching job when it opened up last year as well. However, those ties were much stronger —- he was a coordinator and assistant coach for a few years —- than any he would have at Tennessee as he has no history with the school. That seems like a shot in the dark and while it does look bleak at FSU, the buyout required to get rid of Fisher is just too big right now.

Fisher would give Tennessee a pipeline to Florida and Georgia recruiting, but he seems much less likely to take the UT job than a Jon Gruden or Dan Mullen.
