Coming off of a 30-24 overtime victory against Georgia and an Orange Bowl victory last season, it would be safe to say last season was the high point in Paul Johnson’s tenure at Georgia Tech so far. An upset win by Georgia Tech in Athens last season combined with the lofty expectations the Bulldogs are getting this season should make this year’s version of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate one of the premier matchups in college football. Today Johnson was spending time on ESPN shows as part of the ACC car wash, and ESPN’s Joe Schad asked Johnson what he felt about challenge of playing Georgia.
This statement doesn’t really downgrade Georgia in any way considering Florida State was the national champion in the 2013-14 season and Clemson, which is usually a solid program, defeated the Bulldogs that same season. Whatever teams Georgia compares to most, Johnson will have a tough task ahead of him getting the victory against the Bulldogs at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, where the Yellow Jacket haven’t won since 1999.
