Virginia Tech adds four-star QB from the Class of 2018

This four-star quarterback is headed to Virginia Tech, and Justin Fuente is already making a mark on the recruiting trail.

The Virginia Tech Hokies look to be on the upswing following the hire of dynamic head coach Justin Fuente, and the former Memphis head coach is already making a real mark on the recruiting trail. The latest addition to Virginia Tech's stable of future prospects professed his commitment to program this week, as four-star quarterback DeJuan Ellis is headed to Blacksburg as part of the Class of 2018.

Ellis, who is a dual threat quarterback at 6-foot and 160 pounds, chose Virginia Tech over reported offers from Maryland, Rutgers and Syracuse among others. It will be interesting to see if Ellis can stick at the quarterback position given his size, but his athleticism appears to be off the charts and the 2018 class seems like a lifetime away given how much football will take place between now and then.

Hiring a coach like Fuente, who just turned 40 years old, should do wonders for the Hokies in recruiting and the tide appears to be turning for the program in this regard. With DeJuan Ellis hailing from nearby Arlington, Va., the program can look to build momentum locally and, if the past is any indication, Virginia Tech can get it rolling in a hurry by landing local talent on a regular basis.
