Alabama puts another College Football Playoff hopeful to bed in defensive slugfest

Another one bites the dust.

It looked shaky for a bit, but the Alabama Crimson Tide held on to survive an LSU upset bid, 10-0.

The Tide now holds a 6-0 conference record, and barring an upset loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl, should have a ticket punched to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game.

The loss doesn't end all hope for Ed Orgeron to take over as full-time head coach, but it does end all feasible hope of landing in the College Football Playoffs. Two in-conference losses also drops any aspirations of being the West representative in the SEC title game.

Controversy remained in the fourth quarter on Alabama's tie-breaking score, where the offense appeared to hold on Jalen Hurts' touchdown run. After a review, even the commentators questioned if it was enough of a hold to warrant a flag.

On the next drive, Alabama would intercept LSU, then drive the field and run clock to settle for a field goal and a two-score lead.
