College Football Playoff Committee Rankings: The Final Top 25 and New Year’s Bowl Matchups

The College Football Playoff Committee has released its final Top 25 of the season. Earlier, the Playoff bracket and the Top 6 teams were released and the Big 12 was shut out of the Playoff.

The rest of the Top 25 features very few surprises, and the New Year’s day bowl games have been set as a result of these rankings. The Playoff semifinals will be No. 1 Alabama against No. 4 Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl, while No. 2 Oregon will face No. 3 Florida State in the Rose Bowl.

Mississippi State jumping Michigan State into the No. 7 spot was a bit of a surprise, and that move put the Bulldogs into the Orange Bowl to face No. 12 Georgia Tech. The No. 8 Spartans will face No. 5 Baylor in the Cotton Bowl in Arlington instead.

Minnesota returns to the Top 25 in the 25th spot, while Boise State at No. 20 earns a Fiesta Bowl bid by being the highest ranked Group of 5 team, where the Broncos will face the No. 10 Arizona Wildcats in Glendale. The Peach Bowl will put No. 9 Ole Miss against No. 6 TCU in Atlanta. We will have all of the rest of the bowl matchups later.
