Big Ten Week 12 power rankings: Challenging the status quo

Iowa is undefeated and Michigan State is not.

The above statement is an indisputable fact, and yet, I believe the Spartans are better than the Hawkeyes. Michigan State suffered a brutal and, frankly, unlucky defeat two weeks ago while Iowa continues to rack up victories including a close-fought, five-point win over Minnesota. Still, if forced to make a pick between the two teams on a neutral field at this moment, there is no question in my mind that I would go with Connor Cook, Mark Dantonio and the team wearing green jerseys.

Because this is, well, a power ranking. I’m flipping the two teams this week. Iowa fans will hate it, Michigan State fans will love it, and casual observers will create an informed opinion accordingly. It was a very boring week for the rest of the Big Ten (with the exception of the wildness between Michigan and Indiana), and sometimes, “wild” ideas are born out of the battling against the status quo.

Here we are. Stay B1G, everyone.
