Michigan has reportedly hired former Florida head coach Jim McElwain for an unspecified position, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.
Both FootballScoop and 247Sports claimed the coach would be joining the Wolverines staff, although neither outlet provided a specific job title.
Last week, McElwain reportedly interviewed with Michigan, as originally reported by the Wolverine Lounge and later confirmed by mlive.com and 247Sports.com.
According to the report, McElwain would handle play-calling duties, while Tim Drevno would continue as the Wolverines' offensive coordinator for the fourth consecutive season. Pep Hamilton would also continue his role as the team's passing-game coordinator for the second consecutive year.
McElwain was fired as Florida's head coach last October less than a week after claiming he, his family and members of the football program received death threats but refused to give details "when it becomes unmanageable."
He had previously led the Gators to two consecutive SEC East Division titles during his first two seasons — albeit prior to the reemergence of Georgia as a national contender in 2017 — and went 22-12 (16-8) during three seasons in Gainesville.
McElwain also served as the head coach at Colorado State for three seasons, following a tenure as Alabama's offensive coordinator.
