College Football Playoff Rankings: TCU Enters the Top 4, Liberty Gets No Love

What a weekend we just had in the college football world! The Georgia Bulldogs showed why they are the team to beat with their huge win over the formerly No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish proved that the Clemson Tigers were frauds, handing the ACC leading Tigers their first loss of 2022. The LSU Tigers and Brian Kelly shocked everyone outside of Death Valley by going for two, and the win, to upset the Alabama Crimson Tide. And that was within just the top ten spots of last week's College Football Playoff Rankings. So, with all that and then some, where does that leave us with our newest rankings? Well, they're out and boy, are they almost perfect.

Here are the College Football Playoff Rankings:

Where the Committee Got It Wrong: LSU Getting Too Much Love

The LSU Tigers had a big win on Saturday, beating Alabama in overtime, and it was probably their biggest win since winning the National Championship in 2019. And given how their season started, no one thought the Tigers would be in this situation. But that does not mean they deserve to be ranked as the seventh team in the nation. Now, I am not really asking much because I think they should be just one spot behind that, sitting in the eight-hole. Reasoning? The committee seems like they are setting it up that if LSU wins out, they have a chance to make the College Football Playoff as a two-loss conference champion. SEC or not, that should never happen (Just ask 2016 Penn State). But this also brings to mind USC—what have they done to put themselves in the top seven?

Showing No Love for the Flames

The Liberty Flames deserved to be ranked inside the College Football Playoff Top 25 Rankings and should be in contention for the much-coveted Group of Five automatic bid for a New Year's Six Bowl Game. Florida State, ranked 23rd, has one impressive win on the season and three losses. The Kentucky Wildcats have won a couple of games that were big at the time, but are nothing now, and also have three losses. Show some love to a program that has been stellar the last two seasons.

Where the Committee Got It Right: The Top Six

The committee was perfect at the very top of the College Football Playoff Rankings. The Georgia Bulldogs are clearly the best team in the country. The No. 2 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes have been more consistent in their wins compared to the Michigan Wolverines who are sitting in the third spot. Finally, the TCU Horned Frogs get their well-deserved ranking as the No. 4-seed. The Tennessee Volunteers suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, but that loss should not have dropped them anywhere outside the top six. The resurgent and sixth ranked Oregon Ducks look like a completely different team compared to their Week One opening loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.
