A star linebacker with the Montana Grizzlies has pleaded not guilty to a DUI charge after authorities allege he well exceeded the legal drinking limit.
The Missoula Police Department said its officers stopped Connor Strahm, the linebacker, at about 1 a.m. in the morning because his headlights were out and his rear taillight wasn't properly functioning, according to an affidavit as reported in the Montana Standard.
Officers said they smelled alcohol on his breath, and that the player had a blood alcohol level of .214 percent — three times Montana's legal limit of 0.08.
Strahm posted a $700 bail and was released. He subsequently pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge.
The 6'1, 241-pound linebacker was second on the team with 70 tackles last season. His team bio said he's expected to be a "top performer" on defense for the Grizziies of the Big Sky Conference.
The Standard reported that, since this would be Strahm's first offense, he faces a possible suspension of one game from athletic activities.
