Former Boston College QB suffers heartbreaking twin tragedy an hour apart

Former Boston College quarterback Doug Flutie had some tragic news on Wednesday. Via his Facebook page, Flutie announced that both of his parents died of heart attacks on Wednesday morning. What’s even more sad is that they died within an hour of each other. Flutie said that his father, Dick, had been ill in the hospital and died of a heart attack. An hour later, Doug’s mother and his father’s wife, Joan, suffered a sudden heart attack herself an hour later and passed away. Here’s the tragic story from Flutie’s Facebook page.

Flutie enjoyed a 19-year career in both the NFL and Canadian Football League, including stints with the New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers and Calgary Stampede. He won the Heisman Trophy at Boston College during the 1984 season. Flutie’s parents were also grandparents — Doug and his wife Laurie had two children, Doug Flutie Jr. and Alexa Flutie.
