For much of the first half in South Bend back in 2017, nothing went well on the offensive side of the ball for the Georgia Bulldogs. In fact, Kirby Smart's team was trailing Notre Dame by a 10-3 margin with less than seven minutes remaining in the half and the absence of former five-star quarterback prospect Jacob Eason was quite apparent and damning.
Enter Terry Godwin.
The junior wide receiver from Hogansville, Georgia, climbed the ladder and took the Bulldogs from a seven-point deficit to a tie game with a catch that many (immediately) compared to something the football world would see from Odell Beckham Jr. at the NFL level.
Terry Godwin's One-Handed Catch vs. Notre Dame
Terry Godwin wasn't a household name nationally and he had been a solid, yet unspectacular wide receiver for Georgia in his first two seasons on campus. In this case, though, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound pass-catcher made arguably the play of the day and it even needed a replay in order to confirm what appeared to be an impossible grab.
With this catch, Georgia was officially in a battle on the road against a quality opponent, and Terry Godwin made a big-time impression with this grab that immediately was in the running for play of the year in college football.
