Michigan's 78-0 annihilation of Rutgers on Saturday night was noteworthy for a number of reasons. The 78-point margin of victory was the program's third-largest ever and, for perhaps the most accomplished college football team in history, that was impressive. In addition, Michigan out-gained Rutgers by a comical 600-39 margin and the Wolverines needed only 16 pass attempts to accumulate that lofty total in yardage and the aforementioned 78 points.
However, the local Ruth's Chris Steak House in Ann Arbor probably wasn't quite as happy about the performance of Jim Harbaugh's team. The reason? It might cost them thousands of dollars.
Prior to kick-off, the restaurant announced a promotion that would save patrons a percentage of their total bill in conjunction with the winning margin and, um, 78 points is a lot.
To be fair, this Ruth's Chris location did cap things at 50 percent off, but this will still be a bloodbath in terms of the bottom line for the restaurant itself. On one hand, the restaurant will almost certainly receive a bump in patronage given the type of attention this promotion has received, but on the flip side, they must hope the future is bright as a result because this week won't be pretty.
With Jim Harbaugh on the sideline, it might not be the best idea to tie discounts to margin of victory for the Michigan Wolverines.
