Five-star RB Najee Harris explains why he picked Alabama over Michigan

Harris is rated as the No. 3 player in the nation.

Five-star Najee Harris (6-foot-2, 224 pounds, Antioch, Ca.) had one of the more interesting recruitments earlier this month when his indecisiveness between Alabama and Michigan became public. Harris eventually said that he would just turn up at the school of his choice, causing people across the country to keep track of Harris' travel schedule.

Well, Harris eventually decided to stay with the Crimson Tide, and his reasoning for why he made that decision is sure to rile up some fans of the big blue school up north. In an interview with SEC Country, Harris explained why he picked Alabama over Michigan in a very close recruiting race.

"It was really close," Harris said. "But every time I go to practice and every time I go in the weight room, I want to compete against the top athletes — or so a lot of people say — the best. I want to compete against all of those guys. I'm always looking to get better. Alabama has a lot of resources to just get better."

With how much the Crimson Tide have been involved in the national title picture for nearly a decade now, it is hard to fault Harris' reasoning for picking the Crimson Tide. And while Michigan is a rising power with Jim Harbaugh at the helm, they still have some catching up to do to get anywhere near what the Tide have done in recent years.

Both Alabama and Michigan are at the top of the recruiting rankings for the 2017 class. Alabama is ranked No. 1, while the Wolverines take the No. 4 spot, per 247Sports.
