NCAA early signing period reportedly discussed, but conflict remains over two proposed dates

Massive changes

The Collegiate Commissioners Association met Thursday to discuss an early signing period, per ESPN's Jeremy Crabtree.

While National Signing Day remains the first Wednesday of February, the discussion reportedly revolved around two 72-hour signing windows that would open on the last Wednesday of June and at the mid-December JUCO signing period.

According to Big 12 commissioner and chair of the NCAA's Football Oversight Committee Bob Bowlsby, the most concern was with the June date, per the report:

"There are reasonable disagreements as to if the June signing date the right thing," he said. "They're asking is December the right thing, or is August or November better? There's plenty of opportunity for input on that, but generally speaking, everybody agreed the recruiting architecture hasn't changed for 30, 40 years and it cries out for attention."

Currently, there is no resolution, but this could drastically change team's recruiting methods. Players have talked openly about the stresses heading into their senior years while also having to make one of the toughest decisions of their lives. It also would shorten the window for some recruits to consider up-and-coming teams, leading to the possibility of year-to-year powerhouses holding power over surging teams.

It sounds like a resolution is wanted from all involved, and it should be interesting to see where this goes.
