NFL execs and insiders are already predicting the most unlikely name as the top pick in the 2018 Draft

Are people going to buy this?

The 2017 NFL Draft is barely over, but as it is in the sports media world, the focus has already shifted toward the future. With that said, the 2018 NFL Draft is now at the top of minds for various folks in the industry and intrigue exists as to who the No. 1 pick will be 12 months from now.

While names like USC's Sam Darnold and UCLA's Josh Rosen are often discussed in that regard, a few NFL executives and insiders are looking in a different direction. The player in question? His name is Josh Allen and he is the quarterback of... the Wyoming Cowboys.

First, ESPN's Adam Schefter said on the 2017 draft broadcast that Allen could go No. 1 overall according to a personnel director in the league.

Later, ESPN's Todd McShay made that prediction in a similar way on The Dan Patrick Show.

It has to be noted that there is some incentive to be "bold" with the inclusion of Allen alongside Darnold and Rosen, though it would certainly be safer to ride with more established players. Still, the consensus seems to be that the 6'5" Allen has the best physical tools and, if he can make a big leap from his 2017 season in terms of college production, it would not be crazy to see his name called at the very top of the heap.
