Former Alabama linebacker Adrian Hubbard has been sitting on a good bit of rage towards current Auburn linebackers coach Lance Thompson for some time and Tuesday he decided to let it loose. Hubbard left Alabama for the NFL draft after his junior year in 2014 only to go undrafted. Hubbard apparently believes that his former linebackers coach at Alabama had something to do with that.
When Hubbard first arrived on campus, assistant coach Sal Sunseri oversaw his development, but Sunseri left for Florida State before Hubbard’s junior year and Thompson returned to the Tide as the linebackers coach. Thompson had already spent one stint as a coach under Nick Saban at Alabama and left for Tennessee before returning to Bama.
Hubbard made it clear in an epic twitter rant Tuesday that Thompson’s impact on the Tide was anything but good. While the full-on rant makes some wild claims, the most glaring was Hubbard’s assertion that Thompson was found to be ‘messing’ with star recruit Blake Barnett’s mother.
The ending of the original rant:
Hubbard would later take down his twitter rant to edit out the part where he specifically mentions Barnett’s mother and then retweeted the rant.
Here is the full revised version of Hubbard’s rant:
It should be clear that none of this is substantiated, but it will be interesting to see what if any fall out comes from Hubbard’s comments. Thompson isn’t exactly a favorite in Tuscaloosa already having twice left the program to take jobs at rival schools. The question of his departure even lead to a rather curt exchange between Saban and Thompson in the media before the start of the season.
Either way some of this has the clear sounds of sour grapes, but it will be interesting to see if we ever find out what truths also exist in Hubbard’s rant.
