Alabama’s upset at the hands of Ole Miss last season has been a prevailing topic leading up to the two schools’ Saturday night matchup. It was a marquee win for Hugh Freeze’s Ole Miss team in 2014, a win over the Tide that doesn’t come around often for Ole Miss.
The media has been talking about Alabama seeking revenge for the loss all week, but if you ask most Alabama players you would think last years game never even happened. Defensive star A’Shawn Robinson might have had the single best response of the week.
Others were more elaborate in their feelings:
“I don’t really try to think about last year,” Derrick Henry told reporters. “My focus is on this year and how we can be better than last year in what we do this year. Try to focus this week on preparing right.”
Of course Cyrus Jones weighed in as well:
“Of course, everybody knows they beat us last year and we don’t like to lose,” said Jones. “We’re coming in trying not to lose this year. Just focusing on this year, this game. Like we always say, it’s a new year and a new team so we’re still trying to build our identity.”
The “New year” starts this Saturday at 9:15 ET.
