Georgia coach now tied for 2nd for all-time school wins with Saban, Tide coming to town

The Bulldogs’ 48-6 win over Southern University marks a special victory in Georgia Bulldogs history in more ways than one. Not only did running back Nick Chubb tie Herschel Walker’s consecutive 100-yard game mark at 12, but this victory marks an important milestone in coach Mark Richt’s tenure.

Through 14 seasons Richt has amassed 140 total victories with the Bulldogs, still a ways away from coach Vince Dooley’s record 201.

Though Richt’s Georgia career is often remembered for the games he didn’t win, that perception can start to change next week when Nick Saban brings his Alabama Crimson Tide to Athens for a big-time showdown.

Richt has not beaten Alabama since Saban’s first season in Tuscaloosa back in 2007. A victory will not only keep the skeptics from pouncing on another key loss in yet another season, it would put the Bulldogs in excellent position to win the SEC East and get into the championship game in Atlanta.

Get ready for plenty of hype this week leading into the game. We’ll see if Richt can deliver a milestone win for both himself and the program.
