Report: Alabama already has a replacement for Bo Davis

Bo Davis resigned on Friday over alleged recruiting violations.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban might be able to fill coaching vacancies faster than anyone in college football, folks. On Friday, longtime assistant Bo Davis resigned from the Alabama coaching staff for allegedly having committed some recruiting violations while on staff. Now that Davis has officially resigned, Saban reportedly has found his replacement.

According to AL.com, Alabama will hire longtime NFL assistant Karl Dunbar. Per AL.com, Dunbar and Saban have had a "longstanding relationship" for years. He was the Minnesota Vikings' defensive line coach from 2006-11, the New York Jets' defensive line coach from 2012-14 and the Buffalo Bills' defensive line coach last season, but was fired from Buffalo in March.

"Bo Davis has submitted his letter of resignation," Saban said in the statement on Friday. "We appreciate all the contributions he made to the program and wish him and his family the very best in the future."

The news came as a bit of a shock, as assistant coaches generally don't resign in the middle of spring. In fact, many assistant coaches don't leave a program at all unless they are taking another job. The alleged recruiting violations by Davis may soon be investigated by both the NCAA.
