Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp looks to be staying put — for now

There are a slew of head coaching vacancies across the country — 13 of them to be specific — and Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp’s contract is structured to allow him to look for other jobs on Dec. 6. However as we enter Iron Bowl week, Muschamp looks to be staying put On The Plains for now. Muschamp informed the media on Sunday that he has not been contacted about any head coaching, or coordinating job.

“My or no representative of Will Muschamp have been contacted about any job,” Muschamp said via “I can assure you of that.”

Muschamp is represented by agent Jimmy Sexton, who also represents the likes of Hugh Freeze, Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher and Auburn’s Gus Malzahn.

When Muschamp was hired by the Tigers, the defensive unit was expected to have a huge turnaround with the former Florida head coach at the helm. However, the unit has been gashed and exposed for the most part this season. They have improved a bit in the last four games, but they still rank in the bottom three of the SEC defensively in scoring, rushing, passing and total defense.

Despite the struggles on defense, Muschamp feels confident about recruiting this season.

“I can’t speak on recruiting specifically, but I think it’s going well,” Muschamp said. “My total focus is on the Iron Bowl. We’ve got a big game Saturday.”

So it appears Muschamp is staying put in Auburn, at least for now. We’ll see if that holds true after Dec. 6.
